Your stories are very fun and interesting to read. I especially liked the photo too. Your Dad was a special guy and I'm sure your Mom was too. It is so good to read these, so thanks for embarking on this project.
",,,watches the steam from his breath rise as he walks the snow trail from the cabin to his truck. It’s a long enough stretch to remind a person of their insignificance." Your beautiful mind and gift with words, your hours with that coffee cup in the weeds of craft-- I feel all respect for you and appreciation for the stories! Keep the cup full as you can that accompanies you in writing these!
I miss those baby announcements. I also thot the hospital automatically sent the birth info to the paper. Now, Lindsay informs me that you have to request it be printed... Needless to say Emmett did not make copy.
My second born didn't make it to the paper, I'm sure. In retrospect, I do think it is automatic or a box you check at the hospital that gives approval. I think the Homer News still has them--but I haven't checked in a while. Thank you for reading these stories!
This is a great story. Yes, your Dad always told the same story but with different twists or embellishments. My favorite one was about his trip west and his time at Lake Ha Ha Tonka in Missouri. I probably heard it 4 or 5 times, but I was mesmerized by it each time. He was a great story teller and you are too.
I love your beautiful essays. I so remember your parents during this time period. Your mom and I worked in the accounting department at HEA. We were in a ground floor office that looked out over the parking lot. One day, shortly after your mom started working there, all the women in the office noticed this handsome man walking toward the door to our building. We all stopped for a moment, staring and wondering aloud who he was. It was a sweet moment and I still remember the look on your mom's face when she said, pleased and smiling, "he's my guy."
At some point later, your mom and I were pregnant at the same time - her with you and me with my oldest son. We connected over our shared questions and experiences of being pregnant and what it would be like to become a mother. I remember when you were born and they gave you your beautiful name. One time your parents had us over for dinner and we placed you and my son next to each other on a bed and we marveled at the beauty of such perfect little beings.
I always appreciated your beautiful mom's quiet kind presence and intelligence. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. ~Sharon Bauer
Oh, Sharon, thank you so much. Your memory is a gift. I'm learning so much about this place and my parents through doing this project. I didn't know about your connection, though I knew she had worked at HEA and enjoyed the people she worked with. Both of my parents recalled that period of time with fondness. I really appreciate that you took the time to share this.
